Peter Thompson, a UMass alum who graduated in '85, is an award-winning environmental journalist and author. He has worked in many fields including broadcast journalism and public presentation, and is now the founder and editor of the environmental desk at PRI's internationally acclaimed program The World. The graduate will be returning to the UMass for a Q&A session about his career and life after UMass, followed by refreshments.

Comcast-Spectator President Peter Luukko is excited to give back to his alma mater, UMass by providing on-site educational experiences for sports management majors and interns. The two teams met once before at the Mullins Center in 2008, when the Sixers beat the Celtics 98-92 with a sold-out crowd of over 8,000 fans.  Tickets are available now at the Mullins Center Box Office and all Ticketmaster outlets.

learn some tips and tricks when writing a resume. Angela Lussier, Associate Director of Career Programs for the UMass Alumni Association, and Brian Frenette, Associate Director of Career Services, will help students review personal and professional experiences, develop professional references, write cover letters, and go over other important documents. Pizza will be provided!

Patricia Aufderheide, American University communications professor and Director of the Center for Social Media, will be giving a speech about copyright laws and fair use. She will be reframing a discussion about her new book, "Reclaiming Fair Use: How to Put Balance Back in Copyright." Useful for many different careers, from journalism to film making to photography to teaching, Aufderheide will discuss her research on fair use and free speech.

Free and open to the public - the visiting writers series brings two excellent published authors to UMass to read excerpts from their books.  Michael Martone teaches at the University of Alabama and is most notably the author for the edited anthology, Not Normal, Illinois. Sam Michel is the author of a new novel called Strange Cowboy: Lincoln Dahl Turns Five which is out this Fall.
